Kennett Indians drop home opener against Paragould
KENNETT, Mo. - The Kennett Indians took another tough loss against Paragould. They fall 0-2 to start their 2024 campaign.
It was a strong start for the Paragould Ram as they scored their first touchdown in the opening drive. It took them 20 seconds to find the endzone against Kennett.
After scoring again in the second quarter, and converting two points on both touchdowns, the Rams led 16-0 going into the half.
At half-time, Kennett recognized three inductees for the 2024 Sports Hall-of Fame.
Three sport athlete David Tippen was recognized for his contribution in football, track and field and baseball in the early ‘70s.
Former athletic director Jim Vaughan was also inducted for his achievements as a coach and all he did to shape athletics at Kennett.
The 2010-2011 women’s basketball team were honored for being the only girls team in Kennett history to make it to the FInal Four at the state championships.
The Indians came out motivated in the second half with a few defensive stops and making it into the red zone. However, they were not able to find the end zone for a touchdown.
However, the Rams scored once more in the third to make it a 23-0 ball game.
Another touchdown was scored late in the third to lift the Rams to 29-0, however the Indians did block the field goal attempt to prevent the one point conversion.
At the 3:20 mark in the fourth, Paragould extended their lead to 35-0 after another rushing touchdown. The one-point conversion made it a 36-0 game for the Rams.
The Rams had 9 different players receiving rushing yards in this game, including Cole Chipman who rushed for 154 yards on the night.
The Indians will travel next Friday, Sep. 13 to Ste. Genevieve. The game will start at 7 p.m.
