Tigers fall short against Greenville

NEELYVILLE — The Neelyville Tigers couldn't keep up with the Greenville Bears on Tuesday at Neelyville High School Baseball Field.

In an attempt to win their second straight game, the Tigers had a hard time containing Greenville and fell 13-3.

Greenville got cooking early with a base hit from Ian Meyer, which resulted in three runs of an error from the Tigers. Greenville added to their early lead at the top of the second inning when Cooper Sturgeon doubled, scoring one run and two more runs off an error.

By the third inning, Greenville established a big enough lead when Landon Bratton doubled, making the score 8-1. Though the Tigers managed to score a few runs, the chances of making a comeback were slim.

Sturgeon earned the win on the mound for the Bears. The starter allowed one hit and one run (zero earned) over two innings, striking out five and walking one. Braiden Hover pitched four and one-third innings in relief for the Tigers. He allowed five hits and five runs (four earned) while striking out three and walking six.

Owen Conner took the loss for the Tigers. The pitcher went one and one-third innings, allowing six runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out three and walking two.

Conner led Neelyville with two runs batted in. The pitcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Gus Couch showed the depth of the Tigers's lineup by leading them with two hits in two at-bats.

Greenville collected 11 hits in the game. Bratton drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Bears with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Logan Hillis, Sturgeon, Bratton, and Ty Burchard each collected two hits for Greenville.

Neelyville will travel to Puxico to take on the Indians for their next game on Thursday.
