EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. - The Kennett Indians traveled to East Prairie to battle the Eagles of East Prairie High School in a SEMO Central match up.

What was supposed to be a Friday night football game got moved to Saturday as a result of the weather. Despite the schedule change and consistent rain throughout the weekend, East Prairie was able to pull out a shutout performance over the Kennett Indians. They won 52-0 to give Kennett their biggest loss of the season.

The Eagles were led by junior Tavion Ware who rushed 207 yards and scored three touchdowns.

“This win shows we’ve been putting in hard work as a team,” Ware said. “We spent a lot of time in the weight room and it finally paid off.”

He gave East Prairie a strong start out of the gate with a 24 yard rushing touchdown in the opening minute of the game. The two point conversion put the Eagles up early with an 8-0 lead.

Another 63 yard rushing touchdown by Ware extended their lead over Kennett to 16-0.

The second quarter, Ware found some relief in the works of Connor Marcum, a senior at East Prairie.

Marcum scored two touchdowns within minutes of each other in the second quarter. The first came after an interception by fellow senior Mac Munson to give the Eagles another offensive possession early in the quarter. This led to the scoring drive where Marcum scored his first touchdown of the game, giving East Prairie a 22-0 lead.

Another touchdown presented itself for Marcum following a fumble recovery from junior Tucker Parker. With just under a minute left, Marcum scores his second touchdown to make it a 28-0 ball game heading into the half.

East Prairie continued their momentum in the opening minute of the second half, where Ware scored his third touchdown of the game. He gives the Eagles a 36 point lead over Kennett.

Marcum also scored his third touchdown in the final seconds of the third quarter to make it a 44-0 game with six unanswered touchdowns.

Along with his teammate Ware, Marcum finished with three touchdowns and 177 rushing yards.

“It felt good to get more involved in our running game today,” Marcum said. “It feels good to get a win on homecoming.”

The game was capped off with a final touchdown by Braylan Cade, a senior at East Prairie. He rushed for 25 yards to find the end zone and extend the final score to 52-0.

Marcum said he was excited to get a win at homecoming and he hopes this performance made their fans proud.

“We haven’t beaten this team in God knows how long,” Marcum said. “I hope everyone is proud of us. There weren’t a lot of fans here because it was a rainy day, but either way we still had a game and we had to execute.”

The Eagles move to 3-2 on their season record while Kennett will fall to 0-5.

The last time Kennett lost to East Prairie was in 2010, as the Indians had a 10 game winning streak over the Eagles.

The Eagles now will move to second in the SEMO Central division replacing Kelly who fell to 2-3 after a loss to New Madrid Central.

Kennett will search for their first win this week at their own homecoming game against New Madrid Central on Friday, Oct. 4. Meanwhile, East Prairie travels to TDW Prep Academy on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m.
