Delta C-7 ends season with a memorable win for Senior Night
DEERING, Mo. - The Delta C-7 Chargers were winning 24-23 in the fourth set against the Hayti Indians.
Delta C-7 only needed one more point to finalize a 3-1 victory and end their regular season on a high note.
It was the last home game of the season and the final time seniors Jaelyn Rollins and Hannah Ward could defend this court.
Rightfully so, the last play fell right into place for these two seniors. The serve from Hayti was targeted at Ward who was able to pass the ball to junior Jaylee Medley. Medley setup Rollins for the final kill which would give the Chargers a fairytale ending on Senior Night.
“It was really sad,” Rollins said. “But we ended on a good note and we played really well.”
This would be the conclusion of what Rollins considered a rough season. With only 2 wins, the Chargers tied their season best from last year.
Despite their struggles this year, Rollins and Ward were happy to compete with their teammates and end on a high note.
It didn’t come with ease for the Chargers, as Hayti fought back each set. Delta C-7 took the first two sets in close points, 25-21 then 25-23.
Hayti, however, attempted a reverse sweep with a third set 25-18 victory.
Yet it was spoiled by a sixe point service run by Rollins which included three aces. She then had the final blow with a kill to end the match.
According to Ward, the energy they need to carry out this victory came from the fans.
“It felt good having everyone here cheering us on,” Ward said. “It made it better, they helped a lot.”
This win helps Delta stay ahead of Hayt in their district standings before the Class 1 District 1 tournament which starts on Friday, Oct. 25.
Even though this was their last home game of the regular season, Delta C-7 were bidded to host the district tournaments at their facilities. This gives Rollins and Ward another opportunity to perform in front of their fans on their home court.
Their first draw on Friday will be against Cooter at 5:30 p.m.
“This season was really rocky,” Rollins said. “But we made it through and it progressively got better. I don’t really think we will win districts, but I just want to beat Cooter.”
