Scott County Central, a storied program with some of the richest winning traditions anywhere, boasting 18 state championships—the most of any school in the state—is determined to rebound from recent struggles and reclaim its place among Missouri’s elite.

As the Braves prepare for the upcoming season, they face the challenge of overcoming five years of losing records, having gone 34-82 during that time. Yet, the team’s spirit remains unbroken, fueled by a blend of returning talent and promising newcomers.

“We are going to have to play team basketball this year to be successful,” said SCC coach Tim Carlisle. “We will have to work as one on offense as well as defense.  We won’t be very big, but can use our athleticism as a strength.  Just like in years past, our daily goal is to be better than we were yesterday.”

The team took a significant step forward last season, achieving 13 wins after recording just four the previous season.  However, the departure of key players like Namarius Banks-Warren and Asher Britt, who have moved on to play at Missouri Valley College and Quincy University, respectively, leaves a significant void in the lineup.

However, the focus is firmly on the future, with returning starters seniors Cortavian Banks and Courtney Sanders III poised to lead the charge.

Banks, who averaged 13.0 points per game last season, is expected to be a pivotal player for the Braves. His performance in last year’s overtime win against Advance showcased his ability to lead under pressure.

The upcoming season presents an opportunity for other players to step into more prominent roles. Cameron and Brandon Bean, who played significant minutes last year, are expected to contribute significantly.

Cameron Bean, in particular, stepped up when Britt was injured late in the season, demonstrating his potential to impact games.

The team’s depth will be further bolstered by seniors Trevor Brown and Dylan Avance, as well as juniors Jaydon Easter and Jaden Arnold.

Moving forward, the emphasis on teamwork and continuous improvement remains at the core of the team’s strategy.

SCC will kick off its season against Chaffee in the Oran Invitational Tournament on Monday, Dec. 2.

The Braves will compete in Class 1, District 2 this season.
