Lady Royals earn big win over Hayti
BROSELEY — The Twin Rivers girls basketball team continued its winning ways on Tuesday with a 51-25 win over Hayti. The Lady Royals have won three of their last five as they improved their record to 6-2.
“This was a good test for us heading into the Lady Royal Christmas Classic,” Twin Rivers coach Michael Snider said. “Hayti is a pretty good team going in. I was geared up for this game because I felt like they were a pretty good team and I thought we did a good job of guarding them. We made things really difficult and run them off the 3-point line.”
The third quarter was a prime example of the Lady Royals defense shutting down Hayti, holding the Indians to only two points for the entire quarter.
“We just stayed the course in the second half,” Snider said. “I saw we were in the right positions and thought we were just half a second too late. We just had to keep people in front of us and close those gaps.”
Lilly Oliver led the Lady Royal offense with 14 points — 10 of them coming in the second half — while Ivy Benson was also in double figures with 11 on the game.
“The girls did a good job of sticking with the game plan, listening, learning and adjusting with each possession.”
The Lady Royals took the lead and never gave it up as they ended the first quarter up 12-8 and went into halftime with a 22-14 lead. In the third, the Lady Royals outscored Hayti 12-2 with Benson knocking down a couple of 3-point buckets to pad the lead in the frame.
From there the Lady Royals were able to cruise to the win as they look forward to a roadtrip to Campbell on Thursday and the Lady Royal Classic starting on Saturday with a very competitive field.
“There’s some very good teams in the field,” Snider said. “I think there’s going to be some very good games next week so I highly encourage people to come out and check out some pretty good girls basketball.”
