Mykencie Hutchison is going from being a Redbird to being a Cardinals.

The East Carter senior recently signed to play softball at the collegiate level next season with Mineral Area College in Park Hills. While East Carter’s athletic teams are the Redbirds, MAC’s teams are the Cardinals.

Hutchison said she chose Mineral Area because of head coach C.J. Wright.

“He is an amazing coach and I always loved talking to him,” Hutchison said. “I also know a lot of the girls that are going to MAC and it makes me excited to see how the team’s going to be.”

Hutchison’s goals at Mineral Area are straightforward and simple.

“I plan on going to MAC to continue my athletic career and hopefully go onto a (four-year) school and continue to play softball after my sophomore year (at Mineral Area),” Hutchison said.

Hutchison is undecided on her major at MAC, but she has narrowed down her choices.

“I’m not totally sure what I want to major in yet, but I do know I want it to be in the medical field,” Hutchison said. “I am probably start my getting my general education classes done and follow the path that the Lord gives me.”

Hutchison is excited to see her hard work paying off.

“The thing that I think stands out the most for me (from my high school career) is getting all-state my junior and senior year,” Hutchison said. “Getting all-state just shows that all my hard work is paying off and that other people are seeing it too.”
