District soccer: Sikeston soccer season ends (11/05/08) HILLSBORO -- The Sikeston Bulldog soccer season came to an end on Tuesday evening as the Farmington Knights won in a shootout by a final score of 2-1. The Bulldogs played the No. 2 seeded Knights for 110 scoreless minutes, but could only manage one penalty kick goal by Hunter Williams in the shootout finale... Poplar Bluff put together a solid defensive game plan that forced overtime against the Bulldogs, but came up short, 1-0... Poplar Bluff soccer falls to Notre Dame in OT (10/29/08) By DAR STAFF The Poplar Bluff Mules took the third-ranked team in Class 2 to the limit Tuesday night in the final game of the regular season at Whiteley Park but came up just short in overtime with a 1-0 loss to Notre Dame. In 1998, Nathan's senior year, the Mules lost in districts to Jackson. Seeing his brother upset about the loss is what triggered the fire inside of Josh to be the great soccer player that he is today. He knew from an early age that he wanted to be the leader of the Mules when he got older... SHS knocks off state-ranked Pirates (10/15/08) SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Bulldog soccer team held on 1-0 to upset the No. 10 Class 2 Perryville Pirates Tuesday night at the Sikeston Complex. Sikeston picks up fourth win of season against Blackcats (10/14/08) SIKESTON-- The Sikeston Bulldog soccer team outlasted the Fredericktown Blackcats in a defensive struggle Monday night to claim their fourth win of the year 1-0 at the Sikeston Complex. The game was all defense for 74 minutes, until Mikey Botkin was able to score off an assist from Darin Dicus... Sikeston nets road win over Zizzers (10/13/08) WEST PLAINS -- The Sikeston Bulldog soccer team defeated the West Plains Zizzers 3-1 Saturday in West Plains. The Bulldogs (3-14) were able to strike first in the contest with a well placed goal from defensive player Stuart Strom only four minutes into the game... ROUNDUP: Kennett stops Poplar Bluff rally (10/07/08) By DAR STAFF KENNETT -- The Poplar Bluff soccer team was shorthanded Monday night against the Kennett Indians, but nearly came away with one. The Indians broke a 2-2 tie with two minutes to go as Blake Willbanks scored to lift Kennett to the win, 3-2... Tribe finally beats Bluff in soccer (10/07/08) The Kennett Indians soccer team has had a season to remember this fall. Snapping a nearly three-year losing streak. Lady Bulldogs slip past Delta; soccer team falls in Marion (10/03/08) DELTA -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs continued their winning ways on Thursday afternoon as they traveled to Delta handing the home team a loss 7-6. The win puts Sikeston's record at 13-8 on the season. The Lady Bulldogs put up three runs in the first inning, two in the fourth and two more in the seventh to push ahead for the win. Jackson beats Poplar Bluff with late goals (09/30/08) By ROB TATE ~ DAR Sports Writer A telling statistic in soccer that usually indicates how much pressure one team is putting on the other is goal kicks. Monday night against Jackson, Poplar Bluff had 11 goal kicks to Jackson's one in the second half. Jackson handled the ball in the Poplar Bluff defensive zone a majority of the game and came away with a 4-2 victory... SHS rally falls short (09/24/08) SIKESTON--The Poplar Bluff Mules soccer team outlasted the Sikeston Bulldogs for the 2-1 win Tuesday evening at the Sikeston Complex. Sikeston head coach Derrick Long was both pleased and frustrated at the same time after Tuesday's game. "I was pleased with our effort," Long said. Late goal ruins SHS upset bid (09/12/08) SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Bulldogs soccer team fell to 1-6 on the season after suffering a very tough loss on Thursday evening to the Notre Dame Bulldogs by a score of 1-0. Sikeston and Notre Dame were each scoreless at the break and the contest had all the makings for a classic battle between the two schools. Jason Isaacs, the young keeper for Sikeston, made several spectacular plays in goal, even fending off a tough penalty kick late in the first half... Bluff's Hanna Blalock sets school record in debut (03/27/08) By DAR STAFF BONNE TERRE -- In her first high school track meet, Poplar Bluff freshman Hanna Blalock broke one record and challenged another winning two races Tuesday night at the North County Invitational. Blalock broke the school record in the 3,200 meters with a time of 12 minutes 2.34 seconds breaking Shawna Starnes' 1986 mark by over half a second. In the 1600, Blalock ran a 5:30.57 just 4.47 seconds off Mary Kalich's mark also set in 1986... Notre Dame settles for tie with Jackson (04/25/07) Notre Dame coach Jeff Worley felt his team was held in check in a 2-0 loss to Jackson on April 2. The loss was the last the Bulldogs have suffered, as Notre Dame rode a four-game winning streak into Tuesday's game at Jackson.
