Chaffee Kelly runners earn all-state honors (11/10/08) JEFFERSON CITY -- The Kelly cross country duo of junior Cody Kern and senior Tara Johnson battled cold weather and a biting wind en route to earning all-state honors at the Class 2 State Cross Country meet on Saturday. Kern, finished 12th with a time of 17:40 while Johnson finished 14th with a time of 21:30. It is the second year in a row that the runners finished with all-state honors as both finished 17th last season. As a sophomore Johnson finished 68th and Kern finished 67th as a freshman... Chaffee blows out Portageville, 43-0 (10/31/08) CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee football team wrapped up its season with a lopsided 43-0 victory over Portageville on Thursday. The Red Devils moved to 5-5, the second straight year they finished at .500 or better. Chaffee jumped on the Bulldogs early, scoring 23 points in the opening quarter... East Prairie flies by Chaffee (10/05/08) CHAFFEE -- The East Prairie Eagles football team cruised past the Chaffee Red Devils 53-8 Friday night at host Chaffee's homecoming game. East Prairie head coach Jason Aycock was very pleased after Friday's contest with his team and their execution... Big hit from Lady Devil's Ancell defeats Perryville, 4-1 (09/09/08) CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee Lady Devils softball team moved to 5-4 on the season Monday, defeating Perryville 4-1. Chaffee got a lone run in the fifth before Shelby Ancell delivered a 3-RBI double in the fifth inning to put the Lady Devils up 4-0. Ancell finished the day 2-for-2 at the plate... Sikeston finishes tourney in fifth (09/08/08) CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeson Lady Bulldogs softball team came away with a fifth place finish from the 2008 Notre Dame Softballfest over the weekend by winning their final three games after dropping the first one on Friday. Lady Bulldogs drop heartbreaker to Chaffee (09/03/08) SIKESTON -- With the bases loaded and only one out in extra innings, the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs had a golden opportunity to not only tie the game against the Chaffee Lady Devils on Tuesday, but maybe take the game with a base hit. Lady Hawks fly by Chaffee (08/27/08) CHAFFEE -- The Kelly Lady Hawks soundly defeated the Chaffee Lady Devils, 7-0, at Frisco Park in Chaffee Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Hawks combined sound hitting and near flawless pitching of Danielle Dock to overcome a talented Chaffee team. Leading the Lady Hawks in hitting was Londyn Backfisch who used her remarkable speed to record an inside the park home run in the top of the fourth inning. The Red Devils boys basketball team earned win No. 10 in a season for the first time since the 1979-80 season with its 54-37 victory over Delta on Monday. Get caught drinking, and prepare to sit (02/17/08) Scott City High School student-athletes caught possessing or consuming alcohol for the first time are punished with a two-week suspension, preventing them from participating in games. Former Pirates assistant returns to lead Perryville's program (02/08/08) Perryville hired a familiar face as its new head football coach. Chaffee assistant coach James H. May III, a former assistant at Perryville, replaces Rick Chastain, who stepped down in December. "I was looking for an opportunity to be a head coach, and that opportunity came open," May said. Son of ex-Southeast star helps Braves to victory (12/27/07) The familiar name of Otto Porter echoed throughout the home gym of the Southeast Missouri State men's basketball team Wednesday. This Porter, however, was the son and namesake of the former sharp-shooting Southeast basketball star Otto Porter. Porter's offspring scored 14 points during Scott County Central's 94-27 victory over Chaffee during the first round of the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament as veteran coach Ronnie Cookson guided him from the sideline at the Show Me Center... Game 4: Scott County Central shuts down Chaffee (12/26/07) The fourth-seeded Scott County Central Braves rolled up a 55-14 halftime lead and went on to beat Chaffee 94-27 in the first round of the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament. Hawks, Rams claim tourney wins (12/04/07) Top-seeded Kelly rolled over eighth-seeded East Prairie in the opening round of the Lady Devils Invitational on Monday night, collecting a 62-32 victory at Chaffee High School. Jackson defense collects honors (11/25/07) The Jackson defense was certainly an important reason why the Indians advanced to the Class 5 state semifinal game against Waynesville this fall. The Indians' defense allowed 125 points in 12 games for an average of 10.4 points per game. So it is not too surprising that players from this group earned seven of the 13 spots on the SEMO-North all-conference defensive team and six of 11 spots on the all-region defensive team... Bulldogs dominate honors (11/22/07) The Notre Dame softball team came close to a perfect season this fall, going 29-1 and finishing third in the state in Class 3. And with the Bulldogs' success on the diamond came many individual honors for the players. Notre Dame pitcher Lauren Reinagel, who posted a 28-1 record, earned Class 3 all-state honors. ... Devils hope to pull senior-ity (11/19/07) The Chaffee basketball team looks to improve on the eight-win season last year as it returns four starters -- all seniors. "This senior class has a great group of kids," Red Devils coach Tyson Moyers said. "I've got nine seniors. Seven of them have played for me since they were freshmen, my first year. So they know me. They know what I want and what I expect."...
