District soccer: Sikeston soccer season ends (11/05/08) HILLSBORO -- The Sikeston Bulldog soccer season came to an end on Tuesday evening as the Farmington Knights won in a shootout by a final score of 2-1. The Bulldogs played the No. 2 seeded Knights for 110 scoreless minutes, but could only manage one penalty kick goal by Hunter Williams in the shootout finale... Farmington slips by SHS (10/31/08) FARMINGTON -- The Sikeston Bulldogs football team's season ended in a barn burner, as they fell to the Knights of Farmington 27-26 Thursday night in Farmington. The Bulldogs (5-5) came into Farmington fired up and ready to play. Sikeston's defense was able to stop the Knights offensive juggernaut for three-and-outs on their first two offensive possessions. The Bulldog offense was able to move the ball early and gain some first downs but were eventually forced to punt by the Knight's defense... Sikeston seeking district title Thursday (10/29/08) SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Bulldog football team will look to claim their first district title in 13 years and their first conference title in 10 years when they take on the talented Farmington Knights Thursday in Farmington. The Bulldogs (5-4) have a shot at those titles because they were able to defeat district foe Poplar Bluff last Friday. It was Sikeston first victory over the Mules in six years... Seniors lift Poplar Bluff soccer to sixth win (10/28/08) The Mules beat Sikeston 2-0 on senior night. 'Tremendous': SHS wins on C.J. Council interception return (10/26/08) SIKESTON -- Turnovers can win or lose football games. C.J. Council's fourth quarter interception did both. Alexis Wells, Lindsey Fowler, Sara Smelser and Sonni Carlisle were all a part of their last win on their home court... Sikeston and Dexter both fall on the road (10/21/08) BELL CITY -- The Bell City Lady Cubs defeated the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs volleyball team in a best-of-five set match Monday night 25-12, 25-11 and 25-11. The Lady Bulldogs (5-17-4) were led statistically by Asia Liggins with six kills, Keyarra Blissett with five kills and one ace, Mandy Moore with 12 assists and one ace and Tyanne Townsend with one ace... Lady Bulldogs unable to fight off NMCC (10/20/08) ORAN -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs volleyball team took second place in the SEMO conference tournament as they fell to New Madrid County Central 19-25, 26-24,26-24 Saturday in Oran. Sikeston was able to advance to the championship game with a 25-16,25-15 win over the Charleston Lady Bluejays in the semifinals... SHS drops district opener (10/19/08) WEST PLAINS -- The West Plains Zizzers proved that they have a tough schedule on Friday evening as they defeated the visiting Sikeston Bulldogs by a final score of 52-28. The Zizzers were coming off of a previous win in week seven where they defeated the reigning Class 5 state champion Waynesville by three points. Sikeston was fresh off of a victory over Kennett, but couldn't provide enough offense to match West Plains' 475 total yards from scrimmage... Bulldogs win their fourth straight on Senior Night (10/17/08) SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Bulldogs soccer team was able to capture their fourth win in a row as they downed the Kennett Indians 1-0 in their final home game and Senior Night Thursday at the Sikeston Complex. Teams take part in tournament pool play (10/17/08) ORAN -- Four local volleyball teams were vying for their chance at a conference title on Thursday night, as the SEMO Conference tournament opened up pool play. Sikeston (5-14) was able to strike for the lone score of the contest eight minutes into the game when Cody Anderson fed the ball to Jordan Davis, who was able to tuck the ball into the left corner past the diving Perryville goalkeeper... Caruthersville hands SHS JV 14-8 loss (10/14/08) CARUTHERSVILLE -- The Sikeston junior varsity football team played an away game at Caruthersville on Monday night and came back with a 14-8 loss to the Tigers. The Tigers scored first on a 12-yard run to make it a 6-0 lead. But, the Bulldogs answered right back with a 15-yard pass from Sam Erwin to Keldon Warfield. Rico Ivey ran in the 2-point conversion to give Sikeston an 8-6 lead going into halftime... Sikeston picks up fourth win of season against Blackcats (10/14/08) SIKESTON-- The Sikeston Bulldog soccer team outlasted the Fredericktown Blackcats in a defensive struggle Monday night to claim their fourth win of the year 1-0 at the Sikeston Complex. The game was all defense for 74 minutes, until Mikey Botkin was able to score off an assist from Darin Dicus... Sikeston nets road win over Zizzers (10/13/08) WEST PLAINS -- The Sikeston Bulldog soccer team defeated the West Plains Zizzers 3-1 Saturday in West Plains. The Bulldogs (3-14) were able to strike first in the contest with a well placed goal from defensive player Stuart Strom only four minutes into the game... Sikeston rolls as it hands Tribe first loss (10/12/08) The Sikeston Bulldogs football team surged past the previously undefeated Kennett Indians 45-7 Friday night on the road in Kennett. However, the Bulldogs offensive game plan looked uncertain Friday afternoon. With starting quarterback Charlie Bohannon sidelined this week with an injury and backup Sam Erwin out with a fever, Sikeston gave the nod to junior Jordan Williams at quarterback. Williams, who usually plays wide receiver, has not taken a snap at quarterback since his eighth grade year... SHS season comes to a close (10/10/08) SIKESTON -- The Sikeston High School girls tennis team's 2008 season came to an end on Thursday at the Class 1, District 1 tennis tournament held at Sikeston High School. Sikeston performed well in their singles matches as Jacarra Lampkin made the quarterfinals before being ousted by Dexter's Katelyn Heil 6-2, 6-0. Running offense to be plenty on Friday night in Kennett (10/09/08) KENNETT -- The Sikeston Bulldog football team will look to rebound from their tough loss to the New Madrid Country Central Eagles last Friday as they hit the road to take on the the 6-0 Kennett Indians this Friday. The Bulldogs (3-3) jumped off to a 22-6 lead over the Eagles last week, but were not able to hold on against NMCC's second half rally, as they fell 40-29... 'It's going to be a slugfest': Tribe to get test from tough Sikeston (10/09/08) The Sikeston Bulldogs have been a thorn in the side of the Kennett Indians over the last several years. While the Tribe beat Sikeston last season, the Bulldogs had not lost to Kennett since 2000 before then, including earning their first win of the season with a 21-13 victory at Kennett in 2006... Portageville slips past SHS (10/08/08) SIKESTON -- The Portageville Lady Bulldogs volleyball team defeated the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs 25-21, 23-25, 25-20, in a three set shootout Tuesday night at the Sikeston Field House. Portageville (6-14) head coach Toni Hill felt her team played inconsistent in their Tuesday night win... Lady Bulldogs finish up with 14 wins on diamond (10/07/08) KENNETT-- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs softball team defeated the Kennett Lady Indians 3-1 in eight innings of play to wrap up their regular season Monday afternoon in Kennett. The Lady Bulldogs were once again led by Sarah Hopson on the mound and Mary Deason at the plate... Homecoming Heartbreak: Sikeston unable to hold on to 22-6 halftime lead (10/05/08) SIKESTON -- The bid for a 4-2 record came up shy for the Sikeston Bulldogs on Friday evening as the visiting New Madrid County Central Eagles overcame a 22-6 halftime deficit to win by a final of 40-29 to spoil Homecoming festivities. NMCC on the other hand now sits at 4-2 on the season as they prepare for Park Hills Central on Friday... Dexter slams SHS (10/03/08) DEXTER -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldog volleyball team made the trip to Dexter High School on Thursday night only to come back with a 25-14, 25-9 loss to the Lady Bearcats. At times the Lady Bulldogs went on a couple scoring runs that was aided by a few errors by the Lady Bearcats, but head coach Steve Beydler said that lack of consistency was the downfall of this match... Lady Bulldogs slip past Delta; soccer team falls in Marion (10/03/08) DELTA -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs continued their winning ways on Thursday afternoon as they traveled to Delta handing the home team a loss 7-6. The win puts Sikeston's record at 13-8 on the season. The Lady Bulldogs put up three runs in the first inning, two in the fourth and two more in the seventh to push ahead for the win. Delta also managed three in the first and added one in the second, fourth and fifth innings... Sikeston set for rivalry game against NMCC (10/02/08) SIKESTON-- Football fans will be in for a treat Friday night as they file into Sikeston Public Schools stadium to see two of the fastest and most talented teams in Southeast Missouri square off in the Sikeston Bulldogs and New Madrid County Central Eagles... DHS netters pick up two match wins over Sikeston (10/02/08) Dexter's Lady Bearcats tennis team picked up two win at home Wednesday against Sikeston. The two teams completed an earlier match that was postponed because of rain at Sikeston, then played the regularly scheduled match. In both matches, Dexter posted 9-0 wins... Hopson, Lady Bulldogs cruise past East Carter (10/01/08) SIKESTON-- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs softball team downed the East Carter County Lady Redbirds 10-0 in five innings at the Sikeston Complex Tuesday afternoon to move to a record of 11-8 for the season. Pitcher Sarah Hopson led the way for the Lady Bulldogs pitching four hitless innings with four strikeouts and going 3-for-4 with an RBI at the plate Tuesday afternoon... Seventh graders stay perfect (10/01/08) SIKESTON -- The future of Sikeston High School football has been showing quite a bit of promise from the seventh grade program all the way up to the junior varsity squad. On Tuesday evening the seventh grade team proved their ability as they handed the visiting East Prairie Eagles a 20-6 loss at Sikeston Public Schools Stadium... Oran gets by SHS (10/01/08) SIKESTON -- The Oran Lady Eagles picked up a conference win against the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday at the Sikeston Field House in two sets, 25-23 and 25-17. Sikeston's head coach Steve Beydler stressed after the game that errors was the big reason for the loss... Sikeston soccer and tennis teams fall (10/01/08) JACKSON -- The Sikeston Bulldog soccer team fell to 2-12 on the season with a 4-0 loss to the Jackson Indians on Tuesday. A breakdown in the second half was the back-breaker for the Bulldogs in an otherwise tight first half. It was 1-0 Jackson at half time but three goals in a span of five minutes proved to much for the visiting Bulldogs... Sikeston volleyball earns win against Bluejays (09/30/08) CHARLESTON -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs picked up another win on the volleyball court Monday evening as they defeated the Charleston Lady Bluejays 25-14 and 25-14. Sikeston finished the contest with 17 aces total. Leading the way in the stat column for the Lady Bulldogs was Asia Liggins with five kills, four aces and six digs, Madeline Davis with three kills, six aces, five digs and two blocks and Keyarra Blissett had three kills and three aces. Mandy Moore also had 11 digs in the victory... Lady Bulldogs slide past Scott City, 5-1 (09/30/08) SCOTT CITY -- With just a handful of games left in the season before districts, the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs got their district run started in the right direction with a win over the Scott City Lady Rams in a 5-1 game on Monday. "That's what we keep focusing on," Sikeston head coach Tiffany King said. "We still have games this week but, games make the best practice. This week will really get us ready for district's and this is a nice win. We just want to continue throughout the week."... Bulldog JV gets win over Blackcats (09/30/08) SIKESTON-- The Sikeston Bulldogs junior varsity football team soundly defeated the Fredericktown Blackcats junior varsity 48-0 Monday night at Sikeston Public Schools Stadium in Sikeston. Quarterback Sam Erwin had an active night, running for two touchdowns and passing for two for a total of four... Bulldogs rout Cape Central for third win (09/28/08) SIKESTON -- A lot has changed since the last time the Sikeston Bulldogs met up with the Cape Central Tigers on the gridiron. That contest, held last November in Cape Girardeau, featured a 27-20 victory that slipped away from the Bulldogs on a cold evening at Houck Stadium... Eagles roll past Caruthersville (09/28/08) NEW MADRID-- The New Madrid County Central Eagles rolled past the Tigers of Caruthersville 32-12 Friday night in New Madrid. The Eagles put up solid offensive numbers, compiling 373 yards of total offense. One of New Madrid's most productive offensive weapons was running back Bryan Waters, who ran for 116 yards and received for 57 yards. He also had one touchdown... Eighth grade Bulldogs pound Charleston, 40-0 (09/26/08) SIKESTON -- Sikeston's eighth grade football team rolled through the Charleston Bluejays Thursday evening at Sikeston Public Schools Stadium. The Bulldogs led 26-0 at halftime but would go on to win by a final score of 40-0. "This eighth grade team played well against Kennett and played really well in this game," said Sikeston head coach Brett Blackman. ... Oran defense holds SHS (09/26/08) ORAN -- After falling to the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs earlier in the season during the Notre Dame Softball Classic, the Oran Lady Eagles returned the favor on Thursday afternoon with a 8-4 win. "This was a much needed win," Oran head coach Sara Heisserer said. "We've kind of been struggling this week. It was nice to get a win over them since they beat us earlier in the year."... Scott City spikes Sikeston (09/26/08) SIKESTON-- The Scott City Lady Rams volleyball team defeated the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs 25-13, 25-11 at the Sikeston Field House Thursday evening. "We battled very hard," Sikeston head coach Steve Beydler said after Thursday's contest. "I was extremely pleased with how hard we played."... Bulldogs notch second victory against Dragons (09/25/08) SIKESTON -- Sometimes during the course of a game mistakes can happen but the outcome seems to turn out good. That's what led to the Sikeston Bulldogs lone goal in their match against the DeSoto Dragons on Wednesday night which ended up being the game-winner in a 1-0 game... Bulldogs looking for revenge on Tigers (09/25/08) SIKESTON-- The Sikeston Bulldogs football team will look to rebound from the well contested loss at Jackson last week when they take on the Cape Central Tigers at home on Friday. Sikeston head coach Kent Gibbs felt his team played well last week. "Overall, It was apparent that our kids thought they could win," Gibbs said. ... Offensive outburst gives Lady Dogs ninth win of year (09/25/08) SIKESTON-- The Sikeston Lady Bulldog softball team rolled the Lady Cat's of Fredricktown 10-0 Wednesday at the Sikeston Complex. Sikeston head coach Tiffany King felt that it was important to rebound with a win Wednesday after suffering a 2-0 loss to Jackson on Monday... SHS rally falls short (09/24/08) SIKESTON--The Poplar Bluff Mules soccer team outlasted the Sikeston Bulldogs for the 2-1 win Tuesday evening at the Sikeston Complex. Sikeston head coach Derrick Long was both pleased and frustrated at the same time after Tuesday's game. "I was pleased with our effort," Long said. "But, it's frustrating to come in knowing that you have a good chance to win the game, then to dominate so many aspects of the game, and not have the breaks go our way. That's hard."... East Prairie wins thriller against Scott City, 5-2 (09/24/08) EAST PRAIRIE -- In varsity softball the East Prairie Lady Eagles knocked off the Scott City Lady Rams by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday. The win improves East Prairie's record to 4-6 on the season. Adalyn Woodard pitched all seven innings for the Lady Eagles, receiving the win after giving up just two runs on eight hits. She walked one and struck out three in the victory... Jackson rolls past Sikeston (09/24/08) SIKESTON -- Consistency was what both coaches were looking for in the Sikeston-Jackson volleyball match on Tuesday night at the Sikeston Field House. The Lady Indians found it. Sikeston did not. The Lady Bulldogs fell in two sets 25-9 and 25-14. "We have to learn how to put together one consistent match," Sikeston head coach Steve Beydler said. ... Jackson hands Sikeston loss on diamond (09/23/08) JACKSON -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs softball team dropped a close one on Monday afternoon on the road to the Jackson Lady Indians, 2-0. The two runs were unearned, one coming in the second inning and the other in the third. Sarah Hopson was handed the loss as she lasted all seven innings. Hopson walked two and struck out three while only giving up three hits... Sikeston Bulldog JV rolls over Cape Central Tigers (09/23/08) SIKESTON -- The Sikeston junior varsity football team took care of the Cape Central junior varsity on Monday in a 40-16 rout. The Bulldogs built a commanding lead in the first half with 28 unanswered points. Darryl Howard scored Sikeston's first touchdown in the first quarter with a 25-yard run... Sikeston improves at volleyball tournament (09/22/08) PERRYVILLE -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs volleyball team traveled to Perryville Saturday to participate in the 10 team Perryville Volleyball Tournament. Sikeston complied a 0-2-2 record in the tournament, but showed great improvement from the beginning of the season according to Lady Bulldog head coach Steve Beydler... Eighth grade action (09/22/08) ... SHS comes up short: Jackson defensive stand stifles upset bid (09/21/08) JACKSON -- As the clock rolled down to 9-minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of Friday's game with the Jackson Indians, the Sikeston Bulldogs had four downs to try to pick up a first down and an opportunity to tie if not take the lead in the game. As all four downs dwindled away, so did the momentum of the game as Jackson took over on downs and eventually pushed their lead further out in front of the visiting Bulldogs before they eventually went on to win by a final score of 35-14... Sikeston softball downs Twin Rivers in extra innings (09/19/08) BROSELEY -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs rallied back from a three-run deficit against the Twin Rivers Lady Royals in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at four and then won the game two innings later. Emilie Martin hit an inside the park home run to left field giving Sikeston a 5-4 lead in the ninth inning... Lady Bulldogs breeze through East Prairie with victory (09/18/08) EAST PRAIRIE -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs handled business on Wednesday afternoon as they traveled to East Prairie, defeating the Lady Eagles 17-0 in five innings. For Sikeston, it was a display of offense as they rattled off 14 hits in four innings at the dish, chipping in nine walks as well... Sikeston looking to carry their momentum north to Jackson (09/18/08) SIKESTON--Optimism is in high volume around the Sikeston Bulldog football program as they prepare to travel to Jackson to take on the Indians Friday night. "I think our kids are optimistic," Sikeston head coach Kent Gibbs said. "You talk to them around school and there is a lot more optimism within our football program. The outlook of our kids that 'hey, we have a real shot at winning these games' is so much better. Our boys are excited to play and that just makes things a lot better."... Sikeston falls short against Cape Central on Tuesday (09/17/08) SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Bulldogs soccer team played another close game on Tuesday evening but came up empty to the Cape Central Tigers 1-0 in regulation. The Bulldogs battled hard the entire game but Josh Compas' goal midway through the second half on an assist from Cole Viers put Cape Central on top where they would remain as the final whistle was blown...
