Southeast softball picked sixth in OVC West preseason poll

The Southeast Missouri State softball team was picked to finish sixth in the Ohio Valley Conference West Division preseason poll.
SIU Edwardsville was picked to finish first in the division with 129 points and 19 first-place votes, followed by Eastern Illinois, UT Martin, Murray State, Austin Peay and Southeast. Southeast received 37 points.
Jacksonville State was picked as the favorite for the East Division with 120 points and 12 first-place votes. Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee Tech, Morehead State, Belmont and Tennessee State round out the division.
The poll is voted on by OVC head coaches and sports information directors.
The Redhawks had an overall record of 15-33 and were 6-18 in conference last season. They finished 10th out of 12 teams in the conference standings.
Southeast opens its season on Feb. 14 at the Mardi Gras Classic in Monroe, La., with games against Houston Baptist and Louisiana-Monroe.
