Southeast's Jarekious Bradley recovering from surgery
Southeast Missouri State men's basketball player Jarekious Bradley had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist on April 3 and coach Dickey Nutt said that he will be out six weeks.
Bradley, who will be a senior next season, suffered the injury during a game early in February and played the rest of the season injured.
"That surgery probably could've be done right then, but he could play on it so we made the mutual agreement that he would play through it, that he was not going to have surgery in the middle of the year. He wasn't going to stand for it," Nutt said.
Bradley, who was named second-team all-Ohio Valley Conference and also was selected to the all-Newcomer team as a junior, struggled with knee injuries throughout the season, too.
He only played two minutes against the University of Missouri-Kansas City on January 29 due to a sprained knee, and he injured his knee less than five minutes into the Redhawks' loss to UT Martin on February 12.
Even with these injuries, Bradley averaged 19 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for the Redhawks.
Stone set for NBA scout spotlight at tournament
Southeast senior forward Tyler Stone will be playing at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, which runs Wednesday through Saturday this week in Portsmouth, Va.
"I just can't tell you how proud we are of him and his development over the years, turning from a young man into a man, a very mature man," Nutt said.
The teams for the tournament, which is attended by representatives from every NBA team and features 64 senior college basketball players, were selected Monday.
Stone's teammates for the tournament are Saint Louis University guard Jordair Jett, Ohio's Nick Kellogg, Massachusetts' Chaz Williams, North Dakota State's Taylor Bruan, Seton Hall's Fuquan Edwin, Middle Tennessee State's Shawn Jones and Texas Southern's Aaric Murray.
I had a chance to sit down with Nutt today to discuss several things, among them his contract extension and his expectations for the team moving forward.
I'll have a story in the paper on Wednesday, which is the first day of the NCAA's spring signing period.
