Charlie Weis and Kansas players on Southeast game
Erin and I were working on a a very tight deadline tonight and missed the Kansas press conference. Here are some quotes from the Kansas media session that were provided by the KU media relations team.
There wasn't much included from Kansas coach Charle Weis on Southeast, although I'm sure Kansas fans have quite a few questions for him tonight.
"I think that they made an effort to create turnovers, and pretty much stop the run," Weis said of his defense's performance. "They had that quarterback-run game going in the second half, and they were putting some pressure on us, and they made some big plays in the passing game too. Number 1 (Paul McRoberts) had a big night, he must have had 170 yards, it seems like, with a couple of touchdowns. I think we gave up some big plays in the pass game late. Other than that for a good portion of the game, I thought that they played pretty solid."
McRoberts caught six passes for career-high 173 yards.
"We just have to finish. It's our mentality," junior running back De'Andre Mann said. "We need to follow the course and get things done. SEMO played very well, but for the most part we just need to finish. We don't need to get beat by ourselves. Once we learn how to finish the game strongly, we will be fine."
Quarterback Montell Cozart: "I felt like we came out great, going up 24-0, and after halftime we came out flat. Props to SEMO, they started to pick it up, you could see their sideline had way more emotion than us and it showed on the scoreboard."
Linebacker Ben Heeney: "Hats off to them, they played great down the stretch. We just have to stop playing down to our opponent. We come out on fire in the first half and we just, I don't want to say play down to our opponent because they played a good game down the stretch, it's just something we have to fix."
"During the first quarter, out on the field, the way our team was playing was a completely different team than it had been. To come out in the second half you know, no juice, the stadium empty at halftime like it always is, fans leaving at halftime, there's no juice in the stadium. I think that's part of it and us just playing down to the level of our competition."
"They did a lot of stuff that they didn't do last week," Heeney said about Southeast. "They put a lot of different stuff on us. I know obviously they tried to win the game and they did a lot of stuff we hadn't seen on film, and they came up with a good game plan that started working on the field."
