The Southeast Missouri State football team faces regional rival Southern Illinois. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. from Saluki Stadium. Erin Unerstall and Rachel Crader will provide updates from Carbondale, Illinois, throughout the game on this blog post.
End of first quarter:Southern Illinois 21, Southeast 3
Turnovers and penalties plagued Southeast in the first quarter.
Quarterback Kyle Snyder fumbled twice -- both were recovered by the Salukis -- and was picked off, and SIU took advantage.
SIU scored on a 6-yard pass from Mark Iannotti to Adam Fuehne with 11 minutes, 36 seconds left in the first.
Running back Malcolm Agnew took a screen pass in for a 33-yard touchdown reception and had a 1-yard touchdown run in the quarter.
The Redhawks had seven penalties for 53 yards in the first quarter.
Ryan McCrum attempted his first field goal of the season and his 43-yard attempt was good with 1:12 left in the quarter for Southeast's only score.
Halftime:Southern Illinois 35, Southeast 20
Despite a mistake-filled first half, Southeast remains within two scores of the Salukis.
The Redhawks got on the board in the second when McCrum made a 38-yard field goal with 10:50 remaining in the half. Cornerback Tim Hamm-Bey intercepted an Iannotti pass at Southeast's 44 and returned it for the Redhawks' first touchdown of the game ito make it 21-13 two minutes later.
SIU's Tay WIllis scored on a 60-yard pass with 6:54 on the clock.
Southeast receiver Spencer Davis fumbled and the Salukis' recovered it on the Southeast 1-yard line. After a penalty the Salukis had it on the 11 and Iannotti hit MyCole Pruitt to make it 35-13 with 5:37.
Snyder completed a 19-yard pass to receiver Paul McRoberts in the end zone with 42 seconds to go before the break to make it 35-20.
End of third quarter:Southern Illinois 42, Southeast 23
Southeast's only score of the quarter came on a 43-yard field goal by McCrum with 10:36 to go in the third.
SIU's LaSteven McKinney caught a 6-yard touchdown pass to make it 42-23 with 7:36 left in the quarter.
