Southeast Missouri State football injury updates
Here's some news that should ease the minds of Southeast Missouri State football fans: all-conference receiver Paul McRoberts has received a clean bill of health after he missed the Redhawks' spring game last Friday due to a foot injury suffered in practice the night before.
McRoberts, who missed five games with a fractured foot last season, was on the sidelines and had his left foot in a walking boot during the spring game. Southeast coach Tom Matukewicz said in a text message Thursday that, "everything checked out" with McRoberts' X-ray and MRI.
Another senior receiver, Peter Lloyd, continues his recovery from a severe leg fracture during a game last season that required surgery.
Junior linebacker Roper Garrett also broke his leg last season, but was able to participate in spring drills. Junior linebacker Chad Meredith, who missed several games with a torn labrum last season, had surgery and his dad, Neil, said after the the spring game that he and his family are optimistic that he'll be fully cleared by the time fall camp begins in August.
Sophomore defensive lineman Kendall Carr, a mid-year transfer from Northwest Mississippi Community College, has a torn ACL, while redshirt freshman quarterback Anthony Cooper was out for most of the 15 spring practices due to a stress fracture in his elbow. He will not be able to throw until July, according to Matukewicz.
The Redhawks begin the 2015 season at Missouri on Sept. 5.
