Southeast guard JJ Thompson leaving men's basketball team
JJ Thompson is leaving the Southeast Missouri State men's basketball program after playing one season for Dickey Nutt, who was fired on March 23 and replaced by Rick Ray.
Southeast sports information director Jeff Honza confirmed Thompson's departure on Tuesday.
Thompson sat out the 2013-14 season due to NCAA rules after transferring from Houston after his sophomore season.
Thompson played in 28 of the Redhawks' 30 games last year and started 20, but his playing time decreased over the last month of the season. The 6-foot junior guard averaged 4.7 points and 2.8 assists per game.
Honza said no other players are leaving the program at this time.
The four Southeast women's basketball early signees that had each been released from their National Letter of Intent have all chosen other schools for their collegiate careers.
Olivia Crozier, a 6-1 forward from Madison High School in Indiana, has chosen to follow former Southeast women's basketball coach Ty Margenthaler to Samford University. Margenthaler resigned from Southeast on March 23 and has since accepted an assistant coaching position with the Bulldogs in Birmingham, Alabama.
Madison`s Olivia Crozier commits to Samford University in Alabama. She.had previously signed with SE Missouri St. but requested release.
