Video: Former Southeast baseball player Matt Tellor promoted to Rome Braves
Former Southeast Missouri State first baseman Matt Tellor was recently promoted to the Class A Rome Braves in the Atlanta Braves organization.
Tellor, the 2014 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year, was drafted by the Braves in the 10th round of the MLB draft last June and began his professional career with the Advanced Rookie Level affiliate Danville Braves in Danville, Virginia.
He's played in three games for the Rome Braves, based out of Rome, Georgia. Tellor's first hit since his promotion was a grand slam in a 7-6 win on Monday. He also recorded a double in the game.
Tellor hit .228 with 25 RBIs with the Danville Braves last season. He joins Malden graduate Tanner Murphy on the Class A team. The catcher, who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2013 draft, hit .242 with 19 RBIs in 50 games with the Danville Braves a year ago but is hitting just .127 with four RBIs in 24 games with the Rome affiliate.
