SEMO's Johnson earns OVC freshman of the week honor
Southeast Missouri State forward Imani Johnson was announced as the Ohio Valley Conference's Freshman of the Week on Tuesday morning.
Johnson, a 6-foot redshirt freshman forward, averaged 14 points and seven rebounds in games against Lipscomb and Central Arkansas last week.
She was one of five players that scored double figures in the Redhawks' 84-69 win at Lipscomb, finishing with a career-high 18 points to go along with nine rebounds.
She had 10 points and five rebounds in a 63-54 loss to Central Arkansas on Sunday.
"Imani is starting to let the game come to her and she is finding success in the paint and at the free-throw line," coach Rekha Patterson said in a press release. "We are pleased with her progress and can't wait to see how she continues to improve."
Johnson's averaging 8.0 points and 4.4 rebounds and has knocked down all 23 of her free-throw attempts this season.
She is the first Redhawk to receive OVC Freshman of the Week honors since Kara Wright did so in 2012.
