Stepping to the plate for what would be his final at-bat, Sikeston senior Jeffery Thornbrough did not have a day to remember. The lefty stood in the batterís box without a hit and his four-game hitting streak in jeopardy. Jeffery, though, turned what was a bad day at the plate into a good one with just one swing of the bat. After Nate Self doubled, with the game tied at seven, Jeffery drilled the 1-1 offering from Poplar Bluffís Carson Webb past the first basemanís mitt into the outfield, scoring the eventual game-winning run. Throwing up a fist-pump after sliding into second base, Jeffery had given the Bulldogs an 8-7 lead ó which would be the final score ó against the Mules in the consolation championship game of the SEMO Conference Tournament, at Capaha Park, in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
