The streak is over.
For the first time in eight seasons, Neelyville won’t make a trip to the MSHSAA Class 2 state tournament.
Top-seeded Thayer got out to a fast start and led for all 32 minutes in a 46-29 win over the Tigers.
Throughout the night, turnovers plagued second-seeded Neelyville as it found no openings in the Thayer defense.
“It’s heartbreaking now, but these seniors have played in two state championships,” Neelyville coach Becky Hale said. "They've accomplished so much and I know they'll keep making me proud."
Jurnee Rolen and Julie Stone started the game with a pair of 3-pointers right off the bat. Meanwhile, Neelyville started the game with two turnovers and a couple of missed shots. Those sequences were indicative of how the night would go for both sides.
