OZARK, Mo.- After a disappointing loss against Logan-Rogersville on Wednesday, 11-1, the Kennett Indians were able to have another dominant showing against Marshall on Thursday.
The Indians scored one run in the first inning, which was better than their whole game against the Wildcats on Wednesday.
In the second inning, the Indians were able to score six runs against the Owls. Tanner Duncan hit a bases loaded triple to bring in three runs. Tanner Pierce would triple, and Trey Gardner singled to bring in three more runs in the second inning, making it 7-0
“I thought Tanner pitched well, and we kind of got the bat line up going and when we get the line up going, we have guys up and down the line up hitting, we are a dangerous team,” said head coach Aaron New. “So it was good to get back into form and do what we do.”
The third inning was much of the same, as the Indians scored four runs in that inning alone, due to a sequence of smart plays by Kennett. The Indians had the lead 11-0.
It is safe to say the Indians were having themselves a day at the plate.
However, the pitching was great as well. Through four innings, Tanner Duncan didn’t allow a hit, let alone a run.
“Tanner did great on the mound for us today,” said third baseman Reese Robinett. “We played good defense and he was pounding the zone the whole game.”
Besides a home run hit by the Owls in the bottom of the fourth, the pitching and defense behind the mound was nearly perfect.
It was great for the Kennett Indians to end the season on a good note, and as third place in the state of Missouri in class four, with a 13-3 win over the Marshall Owls.
“We had a chance to set the school record or tie it in wins in a season so it was kind of a big win for this team,” said New. “It was disappointing yesterday but I’m really glad the way our guys battled back today. We are going to work a lot on individual stuff here on out so we can figure out where the piece start again next year.”
