The Twin Rivers Royals’ chances of making it to the Bernie Boys basketball Invitational championship game ended after falling short to the number one-seeded Puxico High School 60-50.

After securing a close win over Campbell in double-overtime on Monday, the Royals returned to Bernie with hopes of moving to the next round, but a slump in the third quarter sealed their fate. Puxico outscored the Royals 14-8 in the third, and despite a strong run in the fourth, the offense wouldn’t be enough to swing Twin Rivers back out front.

Carter Williams showed up again from beyond the arch for the Royals by knocking down multiple threes and capitalizing at the free throw line. Williams led the Royals with 13 points, Zach Joiner added with 12 points, Jake Hester chipped in with nine, while freshman Eli Hequembourg collected eight points. The Royals improved to 1-2 on the season.

RISCO 67, NEELYVILLE 63

The Neelyville Tigers’ run in the Bernie Invitational championship bracket also ended with a 67-63 loss to Risco High School.

Neelyville will be back in action next Tuesday when they host their first home game of the season against Campbell.
