Senior Olivia Thetford shines as Lady Mules secure second in tri-meet against Jackson and Sikeston at Ozark Ridge. Despite rainy weather, Thetford's impressive score of 36 leads the team into a busy week ahead.

The rainy weather held off just long enough for the Poplar Bluff Lady Mules golf team to host its tri-meet.

The Lady Mules competed against Jackson and Sikeston High School on Monday at Ozark Ridge Golf Course.

Jackson secured first with a score of 164, Poplar Bluff finished second with a score of 203, and Sikeston took third with a score of 231.

Though the Lady Mules finished as runner-ups, they saw much success in individual play. The Lady Mules' only senior, Olivia Thetford, placed first with a score of 36.

Lady Mules golf coach Tyler Davis said it’s still early in the season, but the team has handled the greens well.

“The girls have been playing well this season so far,” Davis said. “We grew the team a little with 10 total players, and all are actively working to get better. Olivia, with this being her last year, is trying to fine-tune her game to continue to improve upon last year. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season and seeing this team continue to improve.”

The Lady Mules will be busy for the remainder of the week as they participate in a tournament in Farmington on Tuesday, compete in a Farmington Match Play on Wednesday and then take a trip over to Cape Girardeau to play Notre Dame on Thursday.
