Bernie SB tops NMCC in battle of teams having special springs (4/29/24)In its latest outing, the New Madrid County Central High School softball squad didn’t get the outcome it was hoping for, as Bernie put four runs across the plate in its final at-bat to earn a 9-7 win on Friday at New Madrid County Central. However, that one game – or how this week unfolds for the Eagles – can’t diminish how well this spring has gone for second-year coach Matt Hartman’s girls.

Bernie freshmen off to strong start for No. 9 Mules (4/4/24)BERNIE – There are a multitude of reasons why the young Bernie High School baseball squad has gotten off to an impressive start this spring, one of which is because the Class 2 No. 9-ranked Mules (7-2) have several young players who have played beyond their years.
-
Bernie BB makes 'routine plays' in rout of Advance (4/2/24)BERNIE – The Bernie High School varsity baseball program hasn’t had a losing season in over 15 spring seasons (perhaps even longer, but that is as far back as MSHSAA publishes records), so making a mistake against it will prove costly. Advance learned that on Monday, as it committed four errors, and stuck out 15 times in a 10-3 loss at Bernie High School.

Pitching to be focus in scintillating Bernie-Advance SB match-up (4/1/24)Veteran Bernie High School softball coach Brad Botsch has a bit of a luxury on his hands, as compared to many softball coaches. The Mules have a solid one-two punch in sophomores Mikalyn Kirkwood and Blair Pleimling on the mound that they can unleash on opponents, and Botsch may need to do just that today when his team takes on unbeaten Advance/Bell City (5-0) at 4:30 p.m. in Bernie. “(Mikalyn and Blair) have both been pretty solid,” Botsch said of his two arms this season.

Some new faces contributing to strong Bernie BB start (4/1/24)After graduating a lot of experience off his 18-win squad from a year ago, as well as having just two seniors this spring, veteran Bernie High School baseball coach Marcus Massey was curious (to say the least) to see which of his young players would step up this spring and produce beyond their years. Thus far, sophomore Leightin Hicks and juniors Taylor Stanfield and Cody Massey have done just that.

High-powered Bernie offense overcomes 'sluggish start' in latest W (3/29/24)BERNIE – The Bernie High School softball program spent all off-season preparing for this spring, and it has shown as the Mules have raced out to a 5-1 start. “We worked in the winter with the time that we had,” veteran Bernie coach Brad Botsch said of the allowable three hours each week. “We have started pretty strong, but I think that we’ll be a lot better at the end than where we are now.”
-
Stanfield's 'really good' season continues in narrow W over Bearcats (3/29/24)BERNIE – There was little margin for error for either the Bernie High School or Dexter High School varsity baseball squads on Thursday. However, in the end, the Mules got a great outing on the mound, and at the plate, from junior Taylor Stanfield that proved to be the difference in a 2-1 Bernie win at Bernie High School.
-
Lovelady, other young Bearcats to test Bernie (3/28/24)The Dexter High School baseball squad is an interesting mix of experience and glaring youth this spring, but second-year coach Steve Edwards is molding the two in a fairly successful manner, thus far.
