SIU, former Redhawk Lance Rhodes come to terms on contract extension
Southern Illinois University announced on Wednesday the university and baseball coach Lance Rhodes have come to terms on a five-year contract extension.
Rhodes — a Sikeston native who played collegiately at Southeast Missouri State — had his contract extended through 2027 and will receive a base pay of $170,000 per year.
The former Redhawk is 96-42 in his two seasons leading the Salukis, including a 31-18 record in Missouri Valley Conference play.
In 2022, Rhodes led SIU to its first conference championship since 1990. During 2021, his first season as the head coach, Rhodes helped the Salukis reach their first 40-win season since 1990, including a historic 14-0 start.
During his time with the Redhawks, Rhodes went 5-5 on the mound, pitching 67 innings and striking out 43 batters.
