SEMO ROUNDUP: Feuerborn breaks own record in Redhawk Invite

Southeast Missouri State's Parker Feuerborn set a new school record in the weight throw as the Redhawks placed first on both the men's and women's side in their home opener on Saturday, Jan. 13. Feuerborn, a graduate student who transferred from St. Thomas University leading up to the 2023 track season, initially broke the record last year. Now, he raised the ball with a throw of 73' 4.75" for a new personal best.

In a meet featuring teams of all levels, the Redhawks placed first in 16 events while claiming 53 top-five finishes. Senior Taylor Fox broke the SEMO Recreation Center record in the women's mile with a time of 5:04.27. She beat the previous record (5:04.30), which stood since 2008, by 0.03 seconds.

SEMO graduate student Hannah Eastman broke the facility record in the women's 3000-meter with a time of 9:59.56 beating the previous record set by former teammate Katie Wegmann (10:06.87) last year.

SEMO freshman and Cape Central alum Ryan Seabaugh placed third in the men's mile with a time of 4:34.53. SEMO junior and Notre Dame alum Haley Smith finished fifth in the women's 3K with a time of 11:15.82. East Prairie alum and SEMO senior Makenzie Williams finished third in the women's weight throw with a distance of 55'2.75".

Men's Basketball: Tennessee Tech 70, SEMO 58

Josh Earley scored a career-high 20 points but it wasn't enough as the Redhawks fell on the road to Tennessee Tech 70-58 on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Cookeville, Tennessee.

Saturday was Early's fourth straight double-digit performance. The senior went 10-of-14 from the floor and grabbed five rebounds, as well as scoring 12 points in the second half. Rob Martin added 12 points for the Redhawks and TJ Biel also had eight points.

Jayvis Harvey led Tennessee Tech with 19 points. The Golden Eagles shot 56.1 percent (23-of-41) from the field and outscored SEMO 16-5 at the free throw line.

SEMO outrebounded TTU 32-22 and went to halftime tied 37-37. The Redhawk shot only 28.1 percent (9-of-32) from the floor in the second half and was outscored 33-22 in the final 20 minutes.

Women's Basketball: Tennessee Tech 76, SEMO 65

A slow second half doomed the Redhawks as they fell to Tennessee Tech 76-65 on Saturday.

Alecia Doyle led the Redhawks in scoring with 23 points on 8-of-19 shooting. Indiya Bowen added 12 points while Julia Sion chipped in 10.

Harley Paynter led the Golden Eagles with 21 points while Maaliya Owens added 19 points with 15 of her points coming from the three-point line.

Three-pointers played a pivotal role in the game. The Redhawks were 2-of-10 from the arch, while the Golden Eagles were 8-of-24.

SEMO will return to the Show Me Center on Saturday, Jan. 20, against SIUE.
