Mules take down Ellington; Sports Roundup
ELLINGTON — After finishing in third place with a 4-0 record at the Gulf Coast Classic, the Poplar Bluff Mules picked up right where they left off by connecting with multiple hits.
The Mules hit the road on Monday and won big over the Ellington Whippets 11-1. The Mules got on the board first with a double by Kolby Greenwall at the top of the first. Poplar Bluff added another run in the second, where Greenwall connected once again with a single to take a 2-0 lead.
Bryce Dobbs homered to left field, scoring two runs in the top of the third to extend the lead even further over the Whippets.
Jackson Beis earned the win for the Mules at the pitchers’ mound. He surrendered three hits and one run (zero earned) over three and one-third innings, striking out five and walking one.
Brock Morey took the loss for the Whippets. The starting pitcher went four and one-third innings, allowing 10 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits, striking out one and walking three. Dylan Hall threw one and two-thirds innings of no-run ball for Poplar Bluff in relief. Hall allowed zero hits, striking out two and walking one.
The Mules continue to be elite at the plate as they piled up 13 hits in the game. Marcus Tabanera, Hall, Rylan Seesengood, Dobbs, and Greenwall each collected two hits for Poplar Bluff. Dobbs and Kade Huffman each drove in two runs for the Mules.
Seesengood stole two bases, while the Mules stole four bases in the game.
Morey, Macadden Beck and Will Rayfield each collected one hit for Whippets.
Next up for Poplar Bluff Mules is a game against Sikeston on Tuesday for a Semo Conference matchup.
BASEBALL
Doniphan 6, Alton 4
Keaton Kepley collected three hits in four at-bats as the Doniphan Dons defeated the Alton Comets 6-4 on Monday. Kepley doubled in the seventh inning, doubled in the third inning, and singled in the fifth inning.
Doniphan took the lead in the top of the seventh inning after Kepley doubled and Blake Lewis singled, each scoring one run.
Willcut earned the win for the Dons. The starting pitcher surrendered six hits and four runs (three earned) over six innings, striking out three and walking three. Weyland took the loss for Alton. He went seven innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits, striking out four and walking three.
Doniphan accumulated 11 hits in the game. Dean drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Dons with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Maddox Baucom and Lewis each collected multiple hits for the Dons.
Barton led Alton Varsity Comets with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The catcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Kade Clary went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Comets in hits. Next up for Doniphan is a game against Clearwater on Tuesday.

SOFTBALL
Neelyville 15, Naylor 0
Callei Moss drove in four runs on one hit to lead the Neelyville Lady Tigers past the Naylor Eagles 15-0 on Monday. Moss tripled in the fourth inning, scoring three runs and walked in the third inning, scoring one.
Neelyville got on the board in the first inning after Hannah Hover drew a walk, scoring one run.
The Lady Tigers scored seven runs on two hits in the bottom of the third inning. September Preslar was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Moss drew a walk, scoring one run, Nicole Akers drew a walk, scoring one run, Jade Crosswhite doubled, scoring three runs and an error scored one run.
Preslar earned the win for the Lady Tigers. She gave up two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out seven and walking none. Peyton Hopkins took the loss for the Eagles. The righty went two innings, giving up 11 runs (nine earned) on six hits, striking out one and walking seven.
Delayni Dobbins went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lady Tigers in hits.
Chloe Mitchell and Ella Cannon were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for the Lady Eagles while hitting back-to-back. Neelyville will travel to Greenville for their next game on Tuesday
Doniphan 14, East Carter 3
Kiernyn Bond drove in four runs on four hits to lead the Doniphan Donettes past the East
Carter Lady Redbirds 14-3 on Monday. Bond singled in the first scoring one, singled in the third scoring one, tripled in the fourth scoring one and singled in the fifth scoring one.
The Donettes scored five runs on five hits in the top of the third inning. Bond singled, scoring one run, Dalila Watson doubled, scoring two runs, Kylie Hawkins singled, scoring one run and Micha Burton singled, scoring one run.
Kenzee Davis earned the win for Donettes at the mound. The starting pitcher allowed five hits and three runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking three. Calleigh Miller took the loss for East Carter. The righty went five innings, allowing 14 runs (12 earned) on 14 hits, striking out two and walking four.
Doniphan piled up 14 hits in the game. Kenna Kirby, Burton, and Peyton Lowery each collected multiple hits for Doniphan. Ciara Duckett drove the middle of the lineup, leading East Carter with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Calleigh Miller, Anna Crowley, Karla Ochoa, Duckett, and Mykencie Hutchison each collected one hit for East Carter.
The Donettes welcome Clearwater on Tuesday for their next game.
Holcomb 4, Twin Rivers 1
Powerful pitching By Alexis Parson was not enough, as the Twin Rivers Lady Royals lost to Holcomb. Alexis Parson struck out 11 batters, but the Lady Royals fell to Holcomb 4-1 on Monday. Parson surrendered six hits and four runs over seven innings while walking one.
Parson and Reese Crismon each collected two hits for the Lady Royals. Parson led Twin Rivers with one run batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Twin Rivers will play at home on Friday against Caruthersville in their next game.
