DAR Prep Roundup: Donettes hold on to streak in doubleheader
GREENVILLE — The Doniphan Donettes softball team had to pull double duty on Thursday as they faced off against the Greenville Lady Bears and the Neelyville Lady Tigers in a makeup game from earlier this year.
The Donettes kicked off the doubleheader against the Lady Tigers. Peyton Lowery drove in five runs on two hits to lead the Donettes past Neelyville 13-3 at Greenville High School. Lowery was in the zone as she hit a grand slam to left field in the third inning, scoring four runs and doubled in the fourth inning, scoring one.
“I’m very proud of how my girls played today,” the Donettes' head coach Brad Hagood said. “After today, this completed OFC play. We remain undefeated this spring, and the girls really came in focused today and played very well together.”
Neelyville opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to a hit from Parker Ernst, who singled, scoring two singles. The Donettes flipped the game’s momentum in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs on three hits to take a 5-3 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a grand slam to left field by Lowery that drove in four.
The game was steady until an explosion from the Donettes in the fourth inning by collecting eighth runs. Lowery doubled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Kenzee Davis grounded out, scoring one run, Addison Jackson drew a walk, scoring one run, Kiernyn Bond drew a walk, scoring one run, Dalila Watson drew a walk, scoring one run and Kylie Hawkins singled, scoring two runs.
Hawkins earned the win for the Donettes. The starting pitcher gave up five hits and three runs over five innings, striking out one and walking one. September Preslar took the loss for the Lady Tigers. The starting pitcher went three and two-thirds innings, giving up 10 runs (four earned) on eight hits, striking out three and walking four.
Ernst drove the middle of the lineup, leading Neelyville with two runs batted in. The catcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Resse Dobbins, Jade Crosswhite, Ernst, Hannah Hover, and Miah Martin each collected one hit for the Lady Tigers, while Dobbins stole two bases.
Donettes vs Greenville
Micha Burton drove in five runs on three hits to lead the Donettes past
Greenville Varsity Lady Bears 15-0 in their second matchup of the day. Burton hit a home run to center field in the second, scoring three, singled in the first scoring one, and singled in the third, scoring one.
Kensey Davis earned the win for Doniphan. The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out two and walking one. Gracyn Hill took the loss for the Lady Bears. The right-handed pitcher went three innings, giving up 14 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits, striking out none and walking six.
Doniphan collected 10 hits in the game. Kiernyn Bond and Carsyn Hagood each collected multiple hits for the Donettes.
The Donettes will head into the OFC tournament with a 15-0 record.
BASEBALL
Doniphan 12, Cooter 6
The Doniphan Dons won big over the Cooter Wildcats 12-6 on Thursday
Garrett Griffin earned the win for the Dons. The righty gave up six hits and five runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out eight and walking two. Brayson Green took the loss for the Wildcats. He went two and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits, striking out one and walking four.
Doniphan piled up 10 hits in the game. Keaton Kepley and Keaton Willcut were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits. Lane Allen led with three runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup by going 1-for-2 on the day.
Lance Lucy seized on their opportunities, leading Cooter with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup and Talan King went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Wildcats in hits.
Next up for Doniphan a game at Dexter on Monday.
SOFTBALL
Neelyville 13, Greenville 0
The Neelyville Lady Tigers had to play in a doubleheader as well in a matchup against Greenville, where they won 13-0.
September Preslar earned the win for the Neelyville Lady Tigers. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking none. Kayla Hill took the loss for the Greenville Lady Bears. She went five innings, allowing 13 runs (10 earned) on 11 hits, striking out seven and walking five.
The Lady Tigers tallied 11 hits in the game. Reese Dobbins and Delayni Dobbins were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for Neelyville while hitting back-to-back. Parker Ernst provided pop in the middle of the lineup and led Neelyville with three runs batted in. The catcher went 2-for-3 on the day.
Twin Rivers 11, Van Buren 1
The Twin Rivers Lady Royals defeated Van Buren behind a strong performance from Alexis Parson. Parson struck out 15 batters as she led the Lady Royals to an 11-1 victory. Parson surrendered one hit and one run over six innings while walking none.
Elli Lewis started in the circle for Van Buren. She surrendered five hits and five runs (three earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking three.
The Lady Royals collected 10 hits in the game. Parson, Layla Tompkins, and Abby Suiter each collected two hits. Parson, Tompkins, and Reese Crismon each drove in two runs for Twin Rivers, while Crismon led with three walks.
The Lady Royals will travel to East Prairie for their next game on Friday.
