Delta C-7 softball players earn All-Conference
DEERING, Mo. - Three Chargers were recognized by the Tri-County Conference with All-Conference honors.
Players Pacey and Jaylee Medley along with Jaelyn Rollins each received Second Team All-Conference for their effort this spring.
Pacey Medley was one of four graduating seniors this season for the Chargers. She helped lead her team this year which head coach Alex Morgan described as a developing young squad.
“Those were our three key players and they led the way in most games,” Morgan said. “We didn’t have the best record overall but we won some games and those girls played hard for me every night and that’s all I can ask for.”
The Chargers had a 4-8 record this season but Morgan said he never had any doubt his girls would give it their all.
He described Pacey as the team leader and in her senior season. He said she put her heart and soul into the sport everyday pitching for the Chargers every night. She even pitched seven innings at the district tournament after being in the hospital earlier the day of the matchup.
Pacey wound up in the hospital and Morgan began looking for someone else to pitch in the first round of the Class 1 District 1 Championship tournament. Pacey, however, showed up and said she wanted to compete for her team in the ‘win or go home’ game.
Despite losing 7-8 to Gideon in that matchup, Morgan said Pacey’s efforts kept them in the game and allowed them to be competitive.
“She was just a complete leader,” Morgan said. “It shows. She was even valedictorian for the school. If I could have my own daughters look up and want to be like anybody it would be Pacey Medley.”
Jaylee Medley, Pacey’s younger sister, just completed her sophomore season. She put out three home runs this year including a grand slam as Delta C-7’s lead off hitter.
Rollins played the role of shortstop. Morgan is excited to have her back as a senior next season to help lead the offensive along with Jaylee.
"Those were our two best offensive players,” Morgan said. “When we needed a big hit or some runs on the board, I could always count on those two to drive them in. If the game was ever on the line, I would want those two at the plate.”
Morgan said he has a lot of girls who can step up and be the leader Pacey for the team. This includes Jaylee.
According to Morgan, Jaylee’s momentum and energy sets the tone for the rest of his hitters throughout the game. Last season she hit two lead off home runs, which both resulted in wins, and he credits those to Jaylee’s aggressiveness.
“She is just a gamer,” Morgan said. “Her being the lead off hitter takes the pressure off the other girls and allows everyone to relax when she is hitting well.”
Morgan also has a lot of confidence in Rollins as she continues to progress in the sport. He said Rollins is a top hitter for the Chargers and there is never a doubt when a ball is hit towards her defensively.
Morgan said Rollins is as good as the best in the Tri-County conference.
“(Rollins and Jaylee) can really help set the tone and allow us to compete with other teams in our conference such as Risco and Holcomb,” Morgan said. “Rollins being a senior and Jaylee coming back, we have girls who can step up to replace our seniors next year. I think we can be a better team next year.”
