Poplar Bluff's Greenwall is heading to Jefferson College
Breaking records for the Poplar Bluff Mules baseball in his final was never the goal for graduate Kobly Greenwall, but his brilliance at the plate has earned him the opportunity to play collegiate baseball.
Greenwall signed his National Letter of Intent on Monday at Poplar Bluff High School to play baseball at Jefferson College to become a member of the Vikings for the upcoming season.
“I couldn’t be more excited about signing with Jefferson,” Greenwall said. “I’m just looking forward to getting there and putting in the work to maximize my potential and just seeing where it takes me. I know it won’t be easy, but I just need to keep my mind straight and keep working.”
Greenwall said he was interested in attending Jefferson College because he was familiar with the team and he knew they had a good baseball program. With the opportunity, he plans to obtain his associate's degree and focus on his next goal of getting a degree in business management.
The Mules smashed several school records en route to finishing with a 19–12 record in the previous season, and Greenwall played a solid role with his consistency from the plate. After collecting his 39th hit of the season, Greenwall broke the Mules hit record for a single season.
The previous record had stood for more than eight years before Kameron Misner broke it in 2016 with 38 hits. In a game against Kelly High School, Greenwall broke the record for most singles in a season with 31, adding another record to his own. Tyson Cox set the previous record in 2016 with 30 singles.
For his senior season, Greenwall was named SEMO All-Conference Baseball Player of the Year, named All-District and honorable mention for All-State. He led the Mules in runs, stolen bases and home runs. He finished with a batting average of .516 with 48 hits. He collected 34 singles, five doubles, eight triples, three home runs and 34 RBIs.
Greenwall left quite the impression on the Mules with his play on the field, but it will be his teammates and the memories they’ve shared that he will miss the most.
Second-year head Mules baseball coach John David Pattillo said he knew Greenwall was a good offensive player but was unaware that he would leave such a great footprint for his final season.
“I'm excited for him to play at the next level, and Kolby and his family are too because this is something that they wanted,” Pattillo said. “He had a couple of places he could’ve gone, but I believe he’s getting a great opportunity with Jefferson, and it was a place he was comfortable and confident with. Kolby is one of those kids that I just think no matter what he does or where he goes, he's going to hit it. He's a good all-around player, but his offensive skill set is really high. I really believe he'll do well at the next level, and I’m just excited for him.”
