MALDEN, Mo. - Malden High School football coach Treston Pulley and the Malden Football boosters worked together this summer to put on the first annual golf fundraiser.

The golf tournament was an idea Pulley initiated when he was first hired earlier this summer.

At the conclusion of the day, Malden Football was able to raise close to $5,000, according to Pulley.

“We just picked [the idea] up and ran with it,” Pulley said. “It was a great success. I can truly tell this is a football community based on the efforts people are displaying.”

Pulley said the idea of a golf tournament was due to the success he had running a similar fundraiser at his previous coaching position.

Now he is excited to continue the tradition at Malden with his new GreenWave family.

“I saw the income of money that was coming with the golf tournament and so I wanted to do the same here,” Pulley said. “I knew Malden had a nice golf course so why not try it out here as well? And it was a success with the amount of community support here.”

The fundraiser event, based around the golf tournament, also had a lot of games and opportunities for participants to give to the team.

Players in the tournament had some chances to double their money on certain holes on the course. There were also prize holes along with a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle.

As the golf tournament was Pulley’s idea, Malden’s Football Boosters helped bring it to reality.

“They’ve been good to me,” Pulley said. “They’re asking about things that I want to get done and they’re helping me follow and push my vision through. The boosters have been great for us, being that helping hand for me.”

As the football team approaches the end of MSHSAA’s dead period and its first day of practice, Pulley is excited to get the season started after a summer of hard work.

The GreenWave was able to express some growth this summer through some 7v7 round robin play. The team picked up some summer victories over Kennett and Hayti. This was two of their first wins since 2021. These were also the GreenWaves first wins with Pulley as the coach.

The first official practice for Malden Football will be Monday, Aug. 12.

Prior to their first game, Malden will have a Green and White match on Aug. 23. Then they will host Dexter as their first home game on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.

Pulley, full of gratitude from the community's support, said he wants to keep working hard for them.

“People are excited about football herein Malden,” Pulley said. “I just want to hold up my end of the bargain now.”
