On a day in which two 3-0 teams lead to a lopsided result, the early evening game between two teams searching for their first win in the Babe Ruth World Series led to the most exciting outcome.

Jake Markowsky hit a sharp line drive to bring home Dylan Richmond and deliver Canada a walk-off 7-6 victory over Salina (Kansas) on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Capaha Field in Cape Girardeau.

The win ensured that Canada would end their World Series run on a high note.

"It felt amazing," Markowsky said. "I knew I was gonna have to get up there and do a job. My teammates knew that, and I was confident in myself."

Both Canada and Salina (KS) entered the seventh inning needing three outs to secure a victory. Canada coughed up their lead in the top half after Connor Fry stole home and Grant Williams knocked in an RBI single.

Canada tied the game after Brady Dmyterko led off the inning with a triple and scored on a single by Richmond.

"All my teammates got on," Markowsky said. "Brady is just so electric."

Canada entered the sixth inning down 5-1 but turned the tables on Salina with a five-run rally, highlighted by a two-run triple from Markowsky.

"Once that first hit happened, it kind of just shot up," Markowsky said. "All of our emotions just shot up. We're so happy with each other and then we just kept getting hits after that.

Markowsky went 2-for-4 with three crucial RBI for a Canadian team that did not score a run before this game. The shortstop had only two hits through the first three games.

Everything changed for them in one inning.

"I'm a guy that likes to keep it even the whole game," Markowsky said. "Once my teammates picked me up there after the triple, they got everyone fired up with that."

This is a Canadian team that was outscored 16-0 through the first three losses and started the game down 5-1 to a similarly 0-3 squad in Salina. Yet even after taking the lead and giving it up just as swiftly, the team of the North wasn't deterred.

"We've been trying to not have roller-coaster emotions throughout the entire game," Markowsky said. "We've been trying to just keep it cool and level and that's what we did. We didn't back down and we didn't give up. That's what it's about."

Williams led Salina with a 3-for-4 night with two RBI. Luke Koland and Ryan Brown also drove in runs for the Kansas representatives.

Salina is one of four teams who went 0-4 in the pool portion of the Babe Ruth World Series, joining California, Aruba, and the Netherlands.
