Battlehawks to host six home games in 2025
Looking the maximize the golden goose of the gate, the St. Louis Battlehawks will host six home games during the 2025 United Football League season.
Typically UFL teams split the 10-game schedule with five games at home and five on the road. The rare sixth home game will come with the San Antonio Brahmas making two trips to St. Louis rather than both teams hosing a game against each other. The UFL announced the move on Tuesday, Aug. 20, through a statement by UFL CEO/President Russ Brandon.
“As we planned for the 2025 season, our process from a league standpoint was to assess availabilities at our venues to create a schedule that works operationally across all eight markets, Brandon said. “After reviewing venue availabilities, we decided the best option would be to add a sixth home game to St. Louis in order to best fulfill our team schedules. We are grateful for the support our partners; the City of St. Louis and the Dome have given us.”
Both teams led the league in attendance last year but by varying degrees. St. Louis averaged 35,104 fans per home game while San Antonio was second with an average of 14,983 fans per game.
The real reason being the shift in schedule is the Brahmas home, the Alamodome, is hosting the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four, which will take place around the same time in April as the start of the UFL season.
“The City of San Antonio and the Alamodome have been tremendous partners with the UFL and the Brahmas,” Brandon said. “We have to consider a variety of factors as we put together our 2025 schedule and from a league operational standpoint, the busy lineup at the Alamodome and based on the schedules of all of our venue partners across the league, we decided the best option was to play four games at the Alamodome and a sixth game in St. Louis. The Alamodome is such a special place for our fans to watch a Brahmas’ game, we couldn’t imagine calling anywhere else home in the area.”
The Battlehawks and Brahmas share an interesting rivalry. Both St. Louis and San Antonio hosted their league’s championship game these past two seasons.
The two teams started the 2023 rebooted XFL season together with the Battlehawks staging a fourth quarter comeback to win the first matchup. The Battlehawks are 3-1 all-time against the Brahmas over two seasons.
St. Louis won both regular season games against San Antonio during the first UFL season but the Brahmas got the last laugh by defeating the Battlehawks in the XFL Conference Championship Game. The Brahmas fell to the Birmingham Stallions in the UFL Championship Game in St. Louis.
The site of the 2025 UFL Championship Game has not yet been announced.
