Eagle Ridge boys soccer, girls volleyball remain unbeaten

The Eagle Ridge Christian boys' soccer team showcased a commanding performance against Mississippi Valley Christian (Alton, Illinois), securing a decisive 8-0 home victory on Friday, Aug. 30.

Eagle Ridge captain Caleb Margrabe was the undisputed star of the match, contributing an astounding five goals and two assists. Margrabe's leadership on the field was evident as he orchestrated the team's offensive strategy, consistently finding the back of the net and setting up his teammates for success.

While Margrabe's performance was exceptional, the victory was a true team effort. Senior Cody Stengler added to the scoreboard with two goals and one assist of his own.

Micah Stengler also contributed with a goal, further solidifying the team's dominance. Eagles co-captain Cohen Thompson's assist demonstrated the cohesive teamwork and chemistry that defined Eagle Ridge's play throughout the match.

On the defensive end, goalie Zach Mellies played a crucial role in maintaining the team's stronghold. Mellies recorded a critical save, ensuring that Mississippi Valley Christian's attempts to score were thwarted. The defensive strategy executed by Eagle Ridge was impeccable, with each player contributing to a solid defensive front that left their opponents with limited opportunities.

This significant win marks a pivotal moment in Eagle Ridge's season, showcasing their potential and setting a high standard for future matches. The Eagles (2-0) will take on Crosspoint Christian next at home on Sept. 6.

Volleyball picks up back-to-back wins

Eagle Ridge volleyball emerged victorious over Zalma in a five-set thriller on Thursday, Aug. 29, at Zalma, Mo.

The match ended with Eagle Ridge clinching the win by scores of 21-25, 25-17, 25-12, 24-26, and 15-11. This victory marks a significant milestone for Eagle Ridge, showcasing their resilience and determination.

The match began with Zalma taking the first set 25-21, setting a competitive tone for the evening. However, Eagle Ridge quickly bounced back in the second set, securing a 25-17 win. The third set saw a dominant performance from Eagle Ridge, who overpowered Zalma with a 25-12 victory. Zalma, refusing to back down, fought hard in the fourth set and narrowly won 26-24, pushing the match to a decisive fifth set. In the final set, Eagle Ridge showcased their tenacity and clinched the match with a 15-11 victory.

Several players from Eagle Ridge delivered standout performances that were crucial to their victory. Kaylee Mason led the Eagles with 11 kills and seven aces, as well as seven digs. Cesia Salinas led the Eagles with 11 aces while also having seven digs and six assists. Ryleigh Vance had seven aces and three kills. Jordahn Cook led the Eagles with eight digs and Lydia Hester had a team-high 11 assists.

Eagle Ridge followed up Thursday's win with a three-set victory over Mississippi Valley Christian (Alton, Illinois) at home on Friday, Aug. 30.

The Eagles won the first two sets 25-8 and clinched the match with a 25-13 win in the third set.

Vance led the Eagles with eight kills, while Hester led the team with five aces and six assists.

The Eagles (3-0) will host Crosspoint Christian on Sept. 6.
