Twin Rivers Royals showcase talent at weekend tournament

VAN BUREN — The Twin Rivers Royals had a good showing at the Bank of Grandin Baseball Classic. The Royals finished 1-1 on Saturday after facing some stiff competition.

In the first matchup against the Alton Varsity Comets, the Royals won 16-0. Luke Hester made a lot of noise on the plate for the Royals. Hester collected three hits, which resulted in a triple in the second inning, a single in the first inning and a single in the third inning.

Bo Lilly earned the win for the Royals. The starter surrendered one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out seven and walking five.

The Royals accumulated 14 hits in the game. Evan Bonifield the Royals with five runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Hester, Bryce Dollins and Max Johnson each collected multiple hits for Twin Rivers. Dollins and Johnson each stole multiple bases for Twin Rivers seven in the game.

Despite the success early in the day, the Royals couldn’t keep up with the Van Buren Bulldogs and fell 9-1.

Luke Hester took the loss for Twin Rivers on the mound. The starter went three innings, surrendering four runs (three earned) on four hits, striking out four and walking two.

Hester went 1-for-4 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Drew Solomon, Bo Lilly, Cayden Acre, and Hester each collected one hit for the Royals.

Twin Rivers will play at home on Tuesday against Risco Varsity Tigers in their next game.
