MALDEN, Mo. - It was homecoming weekend at Malden High School.

Despite a lot of their homecoming celebrations being interrupted by the wet weather, The Green Wave and Scott City Rams continued on with Friday night football.

The Rams entered this match 3-1, after giving Portageville their first loss of the season last week. Meanwhile, Malden are still searching for their first win through consistent improvements.

Scott City was able to spoil Malden’s homecoming with a 34-6 win.

The SEMO South Conference matchup started with two touchdowns by the Rams in the first quarter.

Junior Rustyn “Roamer” Underwood helped lead the Rams to victory with 340 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

He said he was proud of his performance and the chance to pull out another win.

“That’s my best game,” Underwood said. “I definitely feel like I handled business. It took us a little bit to move the rock but this is something I will remember forever.”

Underwood rushed in the first touchdown for Scott City within the first two minutes of play.

Later in the first quarter, Scott City junior Jackson Burger made an interception to regain possession, similar to his game winning Interception he made last week in the game against Portageville.

This led to a 60 yard reception by Rylan Froggatt to put the Rams back in scoring position with four minutes left in the first quarter. Scott City quarterback Jackson Gloth was able to find Froggatt again for a 10 yard receiving touchdown to give them a 14-0 lead over Malden.

A quick uniform change during halftime gave the Green Wave a warm and dry new motive heading into the second half.

Senior Tylyne Mathies ran for 60 yards after a catch for Malden’s first touchdown of the game making it a 14-6 ball game.

Despite this progressive start in the second half, Scott City began to pull away on numerous unanswered touchdowns.

Underwood from Scott City immediately responds with a 58 rushing touchdown to extend the lead to 21-6. He finds the endzone again three minutes later for his third touchdown of the game.

Lane Miller from Scott City would start the fourth quarter with an interception to regain possession which then led to another Underwood touchdown.

Underwood ended this performance with 340 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

This helped the Rams come to a 34-6 conclusion on the game.

After this win, Scott City will face off against Caruthersville on Oct. 4. The Caruthersville Tigers were 4-0 before dropping their first match against Valle Catholic in Week five.

Underwood hopes this game was a good preparation to face the Tigers who sit at the top of the SEMO South Conference.

“We knew we had to come out here and win,” Underwood said. “This will help us get ready for Caruthersville and we came out and took care of business.”

Malden will enjoy the rest of their homecoming festivities before traveling to play Portageville on Friday, Oct. 4.
