PARK HILLS, Mo. - It’s week 10 for Missouri high school football and the Kennett Indians traveled north to face reigning Class 3 State Champions Park Hills Central in the first round of districts.

Park Hills brought Kennett’s season to a close with a 30-14 win.

Kennett came into this matchup 0-9, failing to score in their last three games. Meanwhile, the Rebels enter this game 5-4 after dropping their last three competitions.

Kennett were able to hold off the defending champs for nine minutes, but Park Hills senior Jackson Jones scored the first touchdown of the night, rushing four yards into the end zone. Jones gives his team an 8-0 lead in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Jones was able to find sophomore Karras Foster for a 69 yard touchdown pass. This extends their lead to 16-0.

As Kennett were able to hold the defending champions to only 16 points in the first half, Park Hill’s Jones finished the first half with 98 rushing yards and 65 passing yards.

Barrett Henson scored the second touchdown of the night for Park Hills on the kickoff return to start the second half. He brought the score to 24-0 with a 75 yard return.

The Rebels would later get an interception and put the ball 10 yards outside of the end zone. Freshman quarterback Brody Pigg capitalized on this play with a 10 yard rushing touchdown to extend the lead to 30-0.

Following this play, Kennett began to find some momentum behind the running of senior Kevin Thompson. The Indians find themselves in scoring position and a trick play results in Thompson throwing a 5-yard touchdown pass to fellow Kennett senior Caleb Duncan. This was their first touchdown in three games.

The Indians would strike again in the final minutes of play, as Thompson ran a 4 yard rushing touchdown and cut the lead to 30-14.

Thompson would be responsible for both of Kennett’s touchdowns at the conclusion of this game. Despite his efforts, a winless season comes to an end for the Indians.

Thompson finished the game with 28 rushing yards and 5 passing yards, which resulted in a touchdown. Junior Ty Jones had 63 rushing yards and 96 passing yards.

For Park Hills, Jackson Jones would finish with 98 rushing yards after sitting out the second half due to injury. He also had 65 passing yards. Meanwhile, Pigg stepped up as the backup quarterback and put up 61 rushing yards.

Park Hills will continue dancing through the Class 3 District 1 competition as they face Ste. Genevieve next week on Nov. 8. The time and place of this game is TBD.
