Lady Mules bring home fifth at SEMO Conference Tournament

CAPE GIRARDEAU — December has been good to the Poplar Bluff Lady Mules basketball team so far.

The Lady Mules improved to 3-1 for the month and 3-2 overall when they defeated 50-37 on Friday night to take fifth place at the SEMO Conference Tournament.

Ireland Gowen, fresh off a 31-point effort in a consolation semifinal win over Saxony Lutheran, had a triple-double in the win.

SWIMMING
Lady Mules 10th at Ladue

The Poplar Bluff Lady Mules swim team finished 10th with 130 points at the Ladue Invitational on Saturday and had several swimmers place high at the event in St. Louis County.

Allison Williamson took second in diving, while Gracie Brown finished second in the 200 intermediate medley. Keira Willis took eighth in the 50 freestyle and Kate Scott finished ninth in the 100 freestyle.

Additionally, three Lady Mules relay teams cracked the top 10 at Ladue and made the cut for the state meet in the process. The 200 freestyle team of Willis, Scott, Gibbs and Gregory finished sixth, while the 400 freestyle relay team of Willis, Scott, Moore and Gregory did the same and the 200 medley relay team of Gregory, Moore, Willis and Scott took ninth.

Mules take eighth at Patriot Classic

At Parkway South, the Mules wrestled their way to an eighth-place finish at the Chip Allison Patriot Classic over the weekend.

Branson Crum led the way with a third-place finish at 132 pounds.
