Naylor's Deckard injury update
Some bad news came out of Naylor this past weekend in relation to the Lady Eagles as they continue their season.
The team lost a sophomore on the rise in Holly Deckard, who will be out the rest of the season with a torn ACL.
Holly led the team in scoring with 12.8 points per game. Her best overall game this season was in the Lady Royal Classic semifinals as she had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds against Dexter.
The injury occurred in the first quarter of the Lady Eagles' Ozark Foothills Conference game last Thursday night on the road against Neelyville.
Holly twisted her knee in the first minute of action that night. After going to the bench, Holly tried to re-enter the game but wasn't able to run a full speed.
"I give her a lot credit for being tough," Naylor coach Gene Deckard said.
Coach Deckard said on Monday morning that Holly will go see a specialist in St. Louis on January 26 to determine the right approach to fixing her knee. Surgery is likely according to Coach Deckard.
"Holly was coming along nicely from her back surgery from a couple years ago and I thought she was playing good," Coach Deckard added.
Holly is the second Lady Eagle to suffer a torn ACL this season as fellow sophomore Sonya Terry tore her ACL during preseason practice.
"Being a small school, it really hurts us," Coach Deckard added of losing two players to knee injuries. "(The rest of the team) is disappointed. Holly was a big key to the program and she's one of our top 3-point shooters and she probably leads the team in steals."
Naylor, which last week was ranked No. 4 in the Class 1 Poll, are 6-2 on the season and travel to East Carter tonight.
