Rob Tate has been with the Daily American Republic in Poplar Bluff, Mo. since August 2008 and is currently the assistant sports editor. Rob was born and raised in Clawson, Mich., just 14 miles north of Detroit and is an avid Tigers, Lions, Pistons, Red Wings and University of Michigan fan. He has also adopted the Rams and Mizzou to his favorites since moving to Missouri. He is a 2008 graduate of Oakland (Mich.) University where he received his bachelor of arts in journalism. Rob and his wife Sara live in Poplar Bluff.

54th Bloomfield Christmas Tournament seeds

Here are the seeds and first-round matchups for the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament. The first round takes place Monday December 27. I'll post a whole schedule in the future.

(Bracket order)

(1) Kennett (3-1) vs. (16) East Prairie (0-4), 9 a.m.
(8) Van Buren (3-1) vs. (9) Holcomb (1-2), 7 p.m.

(5) Bloomfield (3-1) vs. (12) Saxony Lutheran (2-1), 2:30 p.m.
(4) Portageville (1-0) vs. (13) Malden (2-2), 12:45 p.m.

(6) Twin Rivers (3-2) vs. (11) Richland(2-2), 4 p.m.
(3) Bernie (4-0) vs. (14) Puxico (1-3), 11:30 a.m.

(7) Hayti(2-2) vs. (10) Doniphan (3-1), 5:30 p.m.
(2) Dexter (0-3) vs. (15) South Pemiscot (0-3), 10:15 a.m.

*Dexter and Bernie tied for 2nd in voting and the Bearcats won a coin toss for the second seed.

I'll have a short story on the seed meeting in Friday's DAR. In the Sunday Dec. 26 edition of the DAR , look for a Bloomield Christmas Tournament preview story and fan guide complete with a bracket and all the rosters.

When it comes to seeding some coaches try to manipulate the process. Maybe instead of the coaches voting all 16 seeds just vote for the top 8. Then put the top 8 in one bowl and the bottom 8 in another. Draw a team from each bowl and that's the match ups.

Oh I guess your right Dustin even though my team is stuck with going against Bernie again in the first round but..... We'll see come tournament time.... Good luck to all the teams

You could have been playing Dexter. Games to watch will be Bloomfield vs Saxony, Twin Rivers vs Richland, and Holcomb vs Van Buren are the must see's of the first round.

1-6 are exactly the way they should be. The seeding for the rest of the teams do not really matter this year because they have no chance at all. Maybe one of them will find success by winning the consolation side.

I am curious to see how well Holcomb and Saxony Lutheran will do in their Bloomfield Christmas tournament debuts. I seen where SL plays Oak Ridge tonight, that could give some indication of how good they are. SL is 3-1 at the time of their seedings but I dont know who theyve played. Holcomb played Bloomfield close in the 3rd place game at Holcomb tourney. I believe Bloomfield won by 5. Other then that I don't know anything about them. I expect Kennett to play Dexter in the championship. Should be a fun tourney...anyone want to make predictions on this tournament?

Kennett might win, but they don't play any defense at all. And they don't rebound. They don't block anyone out. I think Caruthers is one of the best players in the tournament. If they can focus on winning and not what their sleeves look like they could possibly win. Bernie puts more emphasis on defense, but they don't have any good athletes on their team. I think Portageville will be better than expected. I could see Dexter and Kennett in the finals, which isn't much of a prediction considering they are the 1 and 2 seed. I might would have given the edge to Dexter until Poplar Bluff beat them.
