14th Twin Rivers Lady Royal Classic Final Night
Well we have reached the last day of the LRC and the seeds stood for the championship game.
It will certainly be an interesting matchup between two district champions from last year in Neelyville and Kennett. The Maupin sisters -- Chelsey and Kayla of Neelyville -- each posted double doubles last night and in their own right were dominant during stretches of the game. It really ought to be a great game, both teams have lots of talent back from last year's teams and both go deep into the bench. The Lady Tigers defeated Twin Rivers in the final last year and won the consolation title in 2008.
The third place game should be entertaining too. Dexter and Naylor have played some entertaining games in the past and tonight should be no different. Dexter won 3rd place last year and the championship the year before.
In the fifth place game, Sikeston continues to improve and played an excellent game last night to earn the right to play on Championship Night for the first time since 2006. They will however have to beat New Madrid County Central and sophomore Benesha Childress who is creating quite a buzz at the tournament. Childress is averaging around 26 points in the three games.
In the consolation championship, OFC foes Doniphan will play East Carter. I covered a game between the two earlier this month and I must say both have improved a lot in such a little time. The Donettes are starting to gel while the Redbirds have already had a turnaround year for the program which has struggled in recent years.
Tickets are $3. There was a solid crowd last night and my advice would be to get there early to get a parking spot and enjoy all the games. Should be four good games.
