Rob Tate has been with the Daily American Republic in Poplar Bluff, Mo. since August 2008 and is currently the assistant sports editor. Rob was born and raised in Clawson, Mich., just 14 miles north of Detroit and is an avid Tigers, Lions, Pistons, Red Wings and University of Michigan fan. He has also adopted the Rams and Mizzou to his favorites since moving to Missouri. He is a 2008 graduate of Oakland (Mich.) University where he received his bachelor of arts in journalism. Rob and his wife Sara live in Poplar Bluff.

2013 SCAA Baseball Tournament -- Bernie wins

Here is the schedule for the Stoddard County Activities Association baseball tournament which starts Monday. The higher-seed is the host in each round. The Bloomfield Wildcats are the defending champions.

Tuesday's Scores
(1) Bernie 11, (4) Bell City 1
(2) Woodland 9, (3) Bloomfield 3

Wednesday's Scores
Championship: Bernie 6, Woodland 3
Third place: Bloomfield 5, Bell City 4

Is there a reason Dexter isn't involved in this tournament, or do they just choose not to be? Just curious, as they would be in the top 2 in this tournament, I would think.

Can't say I have an answer. They've only had this tournament since 2009. Could be because Dexter is in the SEMO Conference but maybe someone out there has a better answer.

Dexter has never played any of the county schools in baseball on a regular basis. Probably has to do with the level of competition although schools like Bernie, Bloomfield and maybe even Woodland could compete with them some years.

Dexter shouldn't play in any of SCAA tournaments in my opinion. They're much to large of a school and for that reason they almost always win. Should maybe switch with Twin River.

Bloomfield has won the Scaa tourney the last 2 years . And i think they would have beaten Dexter both years . The reason

I was told , goes back to scheduling . They are several times bigger than any other school in the conference . So none of them ate in their district , I think they r just trying to play their district schedule . I live in Dexter and that's what I was told . Maybe the level of competition would have been a factor several years ago , but not anymore .

Bernie beat Bell City 11-1 in 6 innings in the semi-finals of the Stoddard County Tournament. They will play Woodland in championship.

Bernie wins the Stoddard County Championship with a 6 to 3 win over Woodland. Bernie trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the 6th and they executed 4 sucessfull bunts in that inning including 3 squeeze plays.
