Rob Tate has been with the Daily American Republic in Poplar Bluff, Mo. since August 2008 and is currently the assistant sports editor. Rob was born and raised in Clawson, Mich., just 14 miles north of Detroit and is an avid Tigers, Lions, Pistons, Red Wings and University of Michigan fan. He has also adopted the Rams and Mizzou to his favorites since moving to Missouri. He is a 2008 graduate of Oakland (Mich.) University where he received his bachelor of arts in journalism. Rob and his wife Sara live in Poplar Bluff.

Ethan Boyer signs with Fontbonne Baseball

Ethan Boyer became the second East Carter Redbird to join the Fontbonne University baseball team in the past month. Boyer will join Coleton Powell at the NCAA Division III school located in St. Louis. There will be more on Boyer's signing in today's DAR.

Question is a JUCO scholarship worth much more than a D3 one?

You have 2 years to move to a higher level if you prove yourself, and plus you actually get money to pay for your school.

D3 seems to be a waste to me.

I don't know what Fontbonne is. They may be NAIA. Which is better than D3.

Fontbonne is NCAA Division III. Really can't give you any perspective on your first couple remarks. Maybe someone else on here has an opinion.

D3 schools cannot give athletic scholarships, only academic.

Maybe the kid want's to go to Fontebonne? The fact that it's D3 doesn't mean anything. Maybe he's receiving a full academic scholarship? Maybe he really liked the school.

To state that "D3 seems like a waste of time to me" is fairly ignorant considering the goal of going to college is to get an education.
